I have fear my death
as a final stupid chapter
in a wantonly ridiculous life,
my dread a focus on my ignorance.
I have feared my death
as if it would finish

I would be stopped
from finding the key,
as if I would be damned.

is damnation then life, too,
is a meagre dream, illusions
generated by a hunger

and as I see the chalking of age
in my bones, may I listen
to the divine rhythms, and, looking on
with wonder, renounce the audacity

to all that is not of life,
so that my death may honor
what I have lived and grieved,
touched and loved.
