Yes, they will remain as the first
natural sparks leaping from and into
the heart's sure flame, the dream
of father and child subsumed
in the Vedic wonder of a higher self
brought home to basic love, relationship
seeking beyond the flame a mysterious
keeping.
The year will be, say, 1985,
and I will return to the house
laden with actual things,
the nourishment and workable toys
of a perfect truth. Our words
will be simple and beyond
the approaching world.
Even now, this sleepless night,
so distant and seemingly dark -- I feel
the reflected gaze through which
our best dreams are made.
I turn to face that face:
one jumps free, then another,
and another, returning from the maze
in the pure focus of its proof.
