Then

Ruby Red
are the lips
I loved at 18
soft ovals
never kissed
trying still to learn
how to position
Mouth and Kiss
imitating movie poses
virginal mouth
you even then understanding
that that giving
connected below
up down and across
yet we kept within
pick-up truck boundaries
and I
loved it
because
while I
longed for more
once at passion's door
Respect's Decree
was clear
your mouth
was and ought to be
our sexual boundary.

But in time
hormones raged
beyond ideology's boundaries
and we pounded
in that cabin
upon it's door
and touch
was allowed
offering up its mysteries;
how to explain
a lightning strike
an Evermore
an in-body
and out of body
experience
happening simultaneously
engorgings
out of control
boundaries broken
teen exuberance
species Urgings
Plungeings
Receivings
Bindings
Meldings
Blendings
all these
received
understood
apprehended
in moments
fleeting
in time condensed
to mini-seconds
lying between
Ohhs and Ahhs
bodies pleading
ancestral
imperatives
generational urgings
baby urgings
manly seethings;
this truth told
is how
most marriages
begin.

They sure do! It's not the shotgun that brings about marriage, but the lust for life. You really have a way of describing how awkward beginnings can quickly escalate under hormonal urges. Loved it! Brought back memories of kisses sweet and kisses wasted. Escalation never fulfilled an escalation wasted. It's a keeper!

Sensual and sensational! I loved every molecule.
I used to call it "spit theory."
Incidentally, I just posted the same point of view from an elderly couple...

Oh yes, those quite innocent teenage years. I related to this poem in a wide range of emotions.

Raw, real, and I feel and live it all; thank you for sharing, Lonnie. Totally relate to what you have expressed via your verses. Love and peace to you,
