The Lighthouse

Atop the cliff near the rocky shore stands the dark, abandoned lighthouse.
The reminder of prominent days past when the light guided souls ashore
Stands in solitude and darkened loneliness on the cliff forevermore.
The enormous ray of brightness no longer shines north or south
For the light has been extinguished, its purpose to shine blackened out.

The stairway leads to nowhere, for there is nothing left to see.
The lighthouse was abandoned and left to stand alone
on the cliff where many once visited to see the exhibit made on stone.
It was the greatest sight to view from the boats out in the bay,
But now it is old and colorless; it is a solemn hollow grave.

Forever stands the memory if the walls come tumbling down.
The thoughts of when the grand spectacle glowed forth from the heights
will remain to tell the tale of the otherwise forgotten nights.
The structure eternally hides the secrets of the men who once led the way
with the help of the mighty lamp high atop the lonely bay.
