For the masses of people who blaze dangers to immigrate to other lands.
Dying to Get To The Promised Land
There is no secret to hide,
Comunications are instant
And global to villages large and small
No more hiding from these influences
As they transcend fortifications
Built to prevent those from outside .
Desperate to reach the promised land
Amid sufferings injuries and death
They scale fences and deserts .
Lurking in shadows that are not there
To wait for a chance and a time .
Risking lives over and over again
To reach the promised land.
They leave homes with one aim
To return home some day with riches .
We never know of the ones who failed
Maybe it takes luck and who can blame them.
The brave die first to get their share
And the rest become statistics.
The news never reach home of those who left.
To look for the promised land that never existed.

"To look for the promised land that never existed."
Perhaps the promised land lays hidden within the depths of our individual and unique soul. A seperate peice of heaven for each of us. To be discovered by us on our journey through time, space and the lifes we each live. Just a thought...
Great and penetrating write. Thank you for sharing this...
Such truth you have shared with us but it will be our grandchildren and theirs to make a much better and safer world then they have today. Thank you for a lovely write which makes us realize how lucky we are.

Reminds me of the stories my grandmother told me of when her parents came to the U.S. from Italy. Our world is in a very sad state and it will be up to the children of today to get things back on track. Lovely poem you have shared with us.
This is an incredible piece of work
You have Instilled so many descriptive, and
Informative words throughout your poem.
Theirs so many people dying everyday
As they go looking for the
promised land I believe the government should help make it
Easier for them to be citizens an not
illegal aliens also would stop a lot
Of the illegal transportation that's corrupting and
killing people in our world!
Excellent detail,Excellent poem
And certainly an Excellent writer!

Peter this is so heart touching. Once all our families, unless we are of Native American descent, were reaching for the promise land. I think somehow it should be easier to become legal citizens and not illegal aliens in this country. Great and thought provoking write.
Reveals all too starkly that survival in today's highly competitive world is a matter of winners and losers. The UK population in 1997 was 57million. In the short space of ten years it has skyrocketed to 62m and is putting a huge strain on resources and infrastructure. The number of losers is mounting and is evident on the streets in the form of homelessness. Disilution is rampant.
I have had the opportunity to sponser, with my family, other families that have come here to America. We have sponsered Vietmanese, Cuban, Dutch. German, Japanese, Haitian, etc...Some came over as exchange students, some as refugees, but all in all, they were very determined and worked very hard to accomplish what they had set out to do! With a little help alot of these people are now as content as most... I think your poem, gives thought and spirit, depending on how it is read, could inspire or discourage...the promise land is heaven sent, whether it be here or in heaven, its all up to the individual who's heart is in the right place...to do good, not only for themselves but to all mankind!
I enjoyed this~

wonderfully felt lines here of hope, a sense of blinded faith and a heart with only one choice...

What you have written here is truth, Peter and for legal immigrants, perhaps the dream can come true but for those who come here illegally, they will never find their dream. They are slaves trapped in a web of passive slavery; they work for little and are often forced to live like animals simply to survive, dreaming of a better life for their family.
Take care,
Sherry

To reach the promised land.
History is replete with these extremely stoic souls, and you pen their story well, Peter.
