This poem is for my pugs.

For The Love Of A Pug

I knew from the moment I saw your tiny face

That you were right for me and my life needed some grace

Your little brown eyes had not quite opened yet

But from the moment I first held you, you were my pet

With the funny little way you scooted across the floor

You stole my heart instantly, you opened that door

You gave my life purpose when nothing else did

You were my baby, you were my little kid

You listened to me cry, you were there for me

Unconditional love you gave, you helped me to see

Your name was something which was easy to find

I dubbed you, Sunny, you were one of a kind

I watched you grow as each day went by

Whenever I looked at you I saw love in your eyes

You'd climb onto my lap and napped on my chest

When we went bye-bye, on my shoulder you would nest

You were the smartest little dog I had ever known

When you felt pain, it was me who would moan

Then two days before Christmas, you presented a gift

You had four tiny babies, my heart gave a lift

Your pups were like you in that they scooted around

With closed little eyes they knew where you'd be found

You had one baby boy and three little girls

The sweetest things ever I had seen in this world

Then five weeks after your puppies arrived

I heard a blood curdling scream, and saw sickness in your eyes

I wrapped you up warmly; we went to your vet

My only thought then was I couldn't loose my beloved pet

I cried all the way to get you some aid

Money was no object, my life I would have paid

Your vet found your illness; it was epilepsy you see

I prayed God would be gentle and give you some mercy

You were in the hospital until Friday that week

Your smiling little heart was something I did seek

They told me you had epilepsy and that it was bad

My heart sank in my chest, I became very sad

Now on to your babies this story I tell

How they developed personalities and their characters as well

First, there was Pearl, a shy little pug

I always wanted to give her a hug

Second, was little Sweet-Face, she looked like you Sunny

When carrying the water bowl, she just looked so funny

Third came little Mikey, dubbed guard-chicken right from the start

Scared to death of everything, but soon stole my heart

And finally there is my Daisy girl, a dare-devil through and through

With the heart of a lion, yet oh so dainty too

So there you have it my little family of pugs

Giving sloppy little kisses and loving little hugs.

Shirley, my brother has a pug that he loves dearly. His pug is his constant companion and goes with him everywhere but to work. I hate to think what will happen to my brother if something happens to his pug. I have a dog, but he's a shitzu. I love mine too. Our pet's become our 'babies'.
