I often wait alone

An original poem.

-------------

I often wait alone,
even when the platform is crowded
with others waiting for the same train.
The people in my life are just like them,
walking in, travelling for a time,
and then walking out, leaving me behind.
I scarcely have time to see their faces,
much less learn their thoughts.
And they don't know mine.
Do they want to know, I wonder,
as I step off the train,
leaving many others behind.
I am no better than they are.

At night my dreams are filled with these people.
How can I be so alone
surrounded by so many?
I start to talk to someone,
but just before she speaks,
my alarm wakes me, and I am alone once more.
Then again on the platform, and in the trains,
others take care to avoid my eyes
while straing to watch everything I do,
and I do the same.

...this dream sounds familiar..is it because...hmmm....no, it couldn't be..could it?...indeed...*smile*

Father, that strange sense of isoation /dislocation is evoked beautifuly in this piece. I love this cos it's so very true for some us, who walk the skin of this earth lightly.

This is haunting but so good

That platform of faces is kind of like flying too and looking down at all the cars, homes and people. It is humbling to think yourself special when seeing how many people below think the same thing. Life is an Enigma and we occupy a small space individually. You are never along although sometimes we feel that way. Thank you for this perspective. It is worth reading over and over for the real life situation we can all place here at one tiime or the other.

Peace and love,
Susan
