I need to know I can pull some strings,
that I can ring some bells in court
that I have good friends and fellows
around me when I need' em, this is symbiosis -
mutual support!
That there's a lady spider who thinks I'm the best
creepy crawly
on the surface of the earth (it's our second online call!)
I can sit in my corner like little Jack Horner
but the tug on the line of another of my kind
with black eyes, you know, what I'm saying,
no spider is an island
or lives on basic instinct alone - I got emotions!
Like that brother in Robert Bruce's cave,
up and down I go, seven times, until I find my way
A spider's silk web is incredibly tough and elaborate
(forget those silks worms in China!)
I've just into the habit, it's how I lure my prey
spiders gotta eat, I'm afraid ---
Ascending on a funkadelic inter-connected spider's web,
this world ain't perfect,
but my webs are finer than Nottingham lace.
Spinning, spinning, spinning,
like Arachne from the Greek mythology
I need to know there ain't some kind of cosmic trap
laid out before me, that I've got protection, just in case;
I've seen friends blown away like cobwebs
trying to defy or deny or compete with the Spider Gods.
