Written one self-indulgent afternoon during a fit of feeling worthless. Ever have one of those...?
It matters not whether I'm wrong, or I'm right:
I always feel guilt-ridden; morn, noon, and night.
The angst I can't halt.
It's always my fault.
The odds that I'm blameless are laughably slight.
Guilty of noshing and getting too tubby.
Guilty of dressing too glitzy, (or grubby.)
So lacking in class.
So culpably crass.
Guilty of hating my best girlfriend's hubby.
Guilty of getting a spot on the rug.
Crushed for not giving my daughter a hug.
Despite being bright,
just can't get things right.
Guilty of self-absorbed selfishness. (Shrug.)
Guilty of running up credit-card bills.
Guilty of swallowing too many pills.
Guilt for not trying.
More guilt for lying.
Guilty of causing Society's ills.
Guilty of being all snappish and terse.
Not ever making things better, but worse.
Such guilt large and small.
And now, most of all,
guilty from writing this MISERABLE verse...!
From personal experience, I know you hit this one 'on the head.' Yet, I loved your ending, it is what makes us able to laugh and overcome that guilt we heap upon ourselves. Why do we do it? Who knows - perhaps it is a learned behavior. Yuck! A kindly word of advise - consider the source and look inside yourself to discover your true worth.
God bless you,
Kathy
