There was a time -thankfully now long in my past- when I had an elitist tendency to be judgemental about nearly everything. I wrote this as a tongue-in-cheek recollection of those intemperate days.
Every morning I wake to battle
a frightful loathsome monster;
raging, bloated, maniacal,
green slit-eyes radiating contumely,
hissing, dismissing restraint;
oozing, sluglike, slimy pride:
my Ego.
Every morning I wake to battle.
Most often I can prevail,
but sometimes my strength falters.
I lost today.
The monster consumed me.
Do you hear what I'm saying,
you hopeless PINHEADS?!!
Ego, if managed well can bring such positive outcomes...when one can manage alongside one's own creative endeavors also their peers interests and artistic talents, it's beneficial to everyone...It takes a healthy ego to survive in this writing business, and it is a business. It's survival of the fittest out here on the wild plains of the Serengeti! Jackal bites the hyena!
