Indian Trails throughout Ohio

Indian Trails from long ago

Some now covered over by concrete

But it wasn’t always so

Indian trails that lead up the Maumee

Winding along the river’s side

Traveled by the noble Shawnee

It was where they lived and died

Some trails took them to Chillicothe

Some made their way to Prophets Town

To the Great Lakes near Sandusky

Then all the way to Serpent’s Mound

Up a summit on a wooded hilltop

The Algonquin would scout his way

A long journey before he would next stop

To a distant village he’d have to blaze

These Indian trails today still remain

You can hike along these paths

In the footsteps of the warrior braves

Just like walking into the past

See a red fox in the early morning

There’s a whitetail deer near at dawn

And a silhouette of a Shawnee hunting

Look away and then he’s gone
