During my research of Saint Valentine, I was dismayed, or shocked from all the information about him. I was not surprised to find that he was the patron saint of lovers—but beekeepers and others?
I love the way the poem celebrates and even, berates the celebrated figure that is the masthead for our beloved St. Valentine's Day. It is strange how our culture and commercialism changes some original tradition into what it is today. Unfortunately, cheap poems, purchased at stores by big companies, selling love and friendship to the masses. A poem written to a Valentine is far more cherished, don't you think?
