A tribute to those who are older.

A very special lot
Sad to say, mostly forgot

But they are still a treasure
Even beyond measure

They are the champions of yesterday
Nothing stood in their way

Until their goals, they achieved
And the things for which they believed

Don't sell them short, though their strength has faded
Remember, it was you - that they aided

Until you were strong enough to find your way
What guided you through was what they had to say

They are the beauty queens and stunning males of a time
that was before
They were quite high on the list of those who kept score

Yes, they are now in a faded state
But be careful how you rate

They still get up and go on
To them so few things of life are won

Without the effort and the reach
To obtain the goal that  is for each

They try though weaker. to live out their days
Would to God, we would love them and give them our praise

Because for us to reach the steeple
Most of us will become 'Old People'

You know of what you speak. Yes, old people are a treasure waiting to be mined. I remember my grandparents and a couple of great-grandparents very fondly. As I grew out of my youth, I noticed that those around me seemed to ignore the elderly in our family. For some reason, I went out of my way to visit them and pick their brains. I also sought out older, wiser people who were not in my family, but still had something that I could learn--a bit of first-hand history, wise advice, legitimate complaints, humorous reminiscing, etc. Like I said, a treasure trove.
