A few thoughts about Growing Old!
This will be in my future book ( almost ready) - A Journey.Cover picture painted by David S Earnshaw

Poem Artwork

Growing old

I have morphed into a kind of sloth

Though no change in my mind

I will not accommodate this new style

I must solve what I now find

Near death, long-term illness

A car accident and a fall

Have joined together - with passing years

So, I’m left with no strength at all

But, I think I may have turned a corner

And getting ready for the fight

I’ve bought some equipment

Don’t laugh, I’ll use it right

My sewing machine is again on view

And gadgets have been acquired

All good indicators

That I am getting what is required

I have a toning table, using space

In the spare room - now for guests

They can use it, if they want

I’ll show them - on requests

I have a treadmill, a wobble board

Weights (small), a foam mat for the floor

All are ready and prepared

Once I start - I’ll use them more

The static bike, is in the lounge

But, I don’t use that at all

My husband has longer legs

So not likely, like me, to fall

I know I shall, I am confident

I’ve just the first step to take

But the ‘blurb’ says, ‘used regularly

A difference all will make’

My family 'believe' I am still young

I can tell they don’t like to see

The morphing I have described

And want a return of ‘me’

They don’t say much, but I notice

So, an effort I will make

Though 80 years, I will not give up

Nor my final steps will take

I have no wish to do a marathon

Nor to climb the highest hill

But just to have a few 'active' years

Before anyone reads my will

Audrey, thanks for this stark reminder of the aging process; it is a definite reality, but as long as we are alive and somewhat independent, that is good news!
Continued success-

The things we collect as we age, thinking we will exercise with them and make our lives more productive. My stationary bike still sits on my deck, waiting for me to use it again. I'm in my early seventies, and in the past I walked 3.2 miles each and every day and felt so much better for it. Today, it's all I can do just to remember my walks, much less to engage in them! Tomorrow . . . I'll walk tomorrow!
You've expressed my thoughts exactly. It's a good poem Audrey, I can feel your pain!

I've been blessed through the years, I am 79 in April, but I do use the cane these days. I have fallen, not many times, nothing broken except my ego. I can see the end. Don't much care for what I am seeing.

Very cute, and like most pieces of home exercise equipment, what we have in our house is used to hang clothes on or they just become dust collectors. Just thinking about exercising has made me tired. I think I'll go take a nap now.
