The dawn broke on the day with a promise of delight,
Washing away the emptiness I felt in the dark of night.
The air was moving the leaves upon the ground,
Gently caressing the grass, fluttering all around.
I looked out the window embracing the beauty of life
And gazed at your picture remembering what we had;
The pain still piercing my heart as with a knife,
And I wonder how things, once good, got so very bad.
Committed by our hearts we shared what seemed like bliss,
The feelings of surrender blazing with each kiss;
A smile of understanding lighting up the darkest day,
Soaring like an eagle, love sweeping us away.
Now the hours remind me of a better time,
Maybe I held on too tightly, possessing what was mine;
I never knew a shadow was how you felt inside,
So many words were spoken in haste and out of pride.
The wind carries the clouds sweepingly across the sky,
And the raindrops match the moister falling from my eyes;
Suspended without direction my heart aches and my soul shouts;
Never before have I been filled with so many doubts.
Ice forms where once the raindrops fell,
In the brittle shapes you can see the story winter tells,
And like the frost the sun ignored with its ray
Your last words chill my heart; words of your going away.
It's not so long ago you loved me,

It’s not so long ago you loved me,
Where did it all go wrong?
I search my heart for answers,
Not finding any reason;
Unlike the warmth of summer---
I'm lost in a colder season.
