Why?

Because they can.

Because many grew up in a society where
Parents overindulged, spoiling their children

Giving them everything they wanted
Not allowing the child appreciate what the
Parents could afford to give without going into debt.
Thus robbing the child of the "dreaming, wishing and wanting"
That teaches patience and eventual gratitude.

Many were not taught to respect their parents,
Their teachers or the elderly grandparents
Who cared for them trying to teach them
Right from wrong, growing weary in the effort

The good book says "spare the rod and spoil the child"
"Oh, not my child" some mothers protest....
"She is perfect and never does anything wrong."

Some parents overlooked the bad grades,
The bullying on the playground, taunting
Their teachers and the temper tantrums
That last until they get their way

The child grows, and becomes jaded
No longer content with the victories of
Their younger years. Now they push the envelope
Further and further to the edge needing...

New highs to quench their thirst.

A psychological evaluation?
NO! My child doesn't need that
We'll just talk to him and all will be fine.

Guns? Why not, junior needs to practice
To protect himself, his friends, his family.
Drinking? There's no harm in a beer or two
Why not? Dad says, junior is a chip off
The old block, patting his son on his shoulder
Winking, he says "Boys will be boys, dont you know."

DWI's? Some moms say they were just having fun at a party
Getting his girlfriend pregnant? Some parents will send her
To an abortion clinic and then all will be forgotten.

Until the day arrives when they meet the police at
The front door, saying "Your son has just killed innocent
Children and their teachers at a local school"...

"Then he turned the gun on himself therefore ending his life."
