This was written for my wife who died of cancer at the very young age of 44. It was included in a large bouquet of yellow roses that I sent to the nurses statiion of Ball Memorial Hospital.

                                The Garden

In a time, not long ago,in a garden all aglow with flowers, light, and shading tree,a rose so perfect, was granted me.

With petals soft and color bright, strong of stem and roots of might.

Our love was shared and seedlings four, would grace our strain forevermore.

But then one dark and dismal time,a blight befell this rose of mine.

Our love would ever stronger burn, but alas the glow would not return.

Although my rose is withered and gone, the once bright hues will linger on,

perhaps to brighten some sunny glade, or garden where once her maker strayed.

To the loving hands and tender care of white frocked gardeners, ever there,

to support this wilting flower of mine,

may the light in your garden forever shine.
