 In their romantic springtime days
Worry did not take its toll.
As one they wandered lover's lane;
To divine the other's soul.

Then summer came with suddenness.
Duty, calling, led the chase.
With hearth and home, and progeny,
Fortune's search kept frantic pace.

Through warm and hazy autumn days,
Pause to rest and remember.
Theirs' who were young are gone away;
Love's flame is but an ember.

To keep her winter rendezvous,
On alone, with measured gait,
She hurries not at this late hour.
He's just gone ahead to wait.
