she approached me
a blazing hot summer day
late afternoon
I’d never seen her before
stood there waiting
my mouth dry as desert sand
because of her beauty
she kept walking toward me
showing a faint smile
finally a broad grin broke over my face
my feet began to move toward her
I was bringing my arms
up to shake hands
or embrace her
whatever she wanted from me
she walked past me
I was completely caught off guard
when I turned
and saw her hugging and kissing
the man who was walking behind me

A wonderful write but a shame she passed by to hug someone else. Thank you for sharing.

I've never had a stranger smile at me and then embrace me. We can all dream.

Your words to describe so beautifully the magnetic pull that sometimes a mere glance can elicit from a stranger when all of the body cues seem to be just right. As I read the startling conclusion, I began to think that perhaps that had also happened to me. You have created an emotional ride in a poem.

Your words can go the other way around as well. Yes, indeed. That is one awkward feeling, Jerry. Write on!

Love ya!

Hmmn, I saw that one coming. It was too good to be true. Haven't we all felt that smile intended for someone else. What a let-down.
