A Small Smile

Being and older kinda guy,
I walk at the mall to stay spry.
Everyday I hoof it on down,
Shedding pounds, don't wanna be round.

I don't walk with the older set,
Rather watch all the sweet Yvette's.
I look, don't mind saying I do,
Beauties on parade for me to view.

I said I look, I do not leer,
How can I not, they are so dear.
They are there and struttin' their stuff,
I think they are calling my bluff.

When their eyes catch mine as they can,
Do I come off a dirty old man?
I'd surely hate that, but you see,
I'll look 'til I die, because that's just mee.

I never feel they are hostile,
Once in a while I see a smile.
At least it's the start of a grin,
What's on her mind I wonder then.

Such a small thing, a smile or two,
What does it mean, I haven't a clue.
I can have daydreams about it,
Wondering if that smile was legit.

A smile is so precious when given to someone who needs it, and it is free. You'll never know, you might have made the day for someone simply by smiling. Great poem, Jerry!

I walk a lot as well. It keeps us young and... ...I smile at the girls/ladies and most smile back. A gift. I can relate, Jerry. Be well as you will,

Regis. 😊✨🎵

Even when we don't think we are attractive to younger people anymore, it's really nice when they smile in our presence. Fortunately, not all young people are jaded by all the overload of information fed to them by peers, parents and teachers.

If a young woman looks as you and smiles, I would say that she is pretty self-confident and enjoys getting response from men of all ages by their body language and facial expression. I have experienced that and find it enjoyable. Poem worthy, hell yes!

But I believe Jane is absolutely right.

I'm sure it was a real smile. Too bad people don't share them more often. So easy to do.

I too had to laugh, because this write could be about me. Where would us old men be without some beauties to view, and put some spring in our steps.

Calling your bluff indeed. Had to laugh at that one. Great poem that brought a big smile to my face.

Your lines read as lyrically as the gentle act of appreciating beauty described. Balancing certain impulses while remaining mindful of social trends of the times is a big part of what folks call "aging gracefully" these days. Poetry like this helps with that.

This is a darling recall of this poem! I bet you haven't changed! LOL!! 'Gotta love it! Don't ever change, by the way!

Love ya!

Jane

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
