On the South coast of Texas is a special place
For Texans it holds a special site in their hearts
An island of sand that the gulf does embrace
It is called Galveston on the maritime charts
This island is history and memories of long ago
For many it’s a trip back to another happier time
For her it is this and more, a dream to make so
Shorter than she appears but still in her prime
She returned with the dragon to her love, the sea
How long? she didn’t know but she was here
Home to the mother of Texas here she had to be
The surf, the sounds, the sand, the Flagship pier
She strides confidently along the stone levee
Her dainty footprints in the ashes and the sand
Recalling the souls that came back from the sea,
The ten mile seawall built to protect the strand
The salty air inhaled deep into her lusty chest
The smell of the gulf exhilarating her tired soul
Memories of her children her mind possessed
Living her life to its fullest is her ultimate goal
She won’t let the dragon win, she would fight
Laughing and smiling she doesn’t want any pity
Together they bask in the bright Texas sunlight
The two proud resilient ladies; her and the City
Best to you and your lady friend!!
