A poem/song lyrics I wrote after a long trip back from a place I shall be again.

She said she no longer loved me and sent me packing
So I loaded up the old Chevy truck and headed on out
I left my heart there with her as I began backtracking
Wondering what went wrong, my mind full of doubt

I want to turn around, but I’m westbound to Cowtown

Westward bound, westward bound to Ole Cowtown

Atlanta fading into the background and the pedal down

I’m westward bound, westward bound to Ole Cowtown

Was kicking myself for losing her as I entered Alabam’
The hurt in my chest worse than any heart attack
It was raining in the cab when I reached Birmingham
I thought about turning around and crawling back

I was an empty shell by the time I entered Ole Miss
The all night radio was playing only sad old tunes
I still smelled her hair and felt that last sweet kiss
Drinking on my mind as I passed the empty saloons

I want to turn around, but I’m westbound to Cowtown
Westward bound, westward bound to Ole Cowtown
Atlanta fading into the background and the pedal down
I’m westward bound, westward bound to Ole Cowtown

I was missing her bad by the time I crossed the Missip
Louisiana roads made me feel even lousier that night
My thoughts were of her and her sweet, sweet lips
I remembered those hazel eyes so pretty and bright

Texas is over the horizon but I still feel so dead
My heart will always be in them Georgia pines
Ain’t much further now, the homestead is just ahead
But all I see is blackness tho the sun now shines

I want to turn around, but I’m westbound to Cowtown
Westward bound, westward bound to Ole Cowtown
Atlanta fading into the background and the pedal down
I’m westward bound, westward bound to Ole Cowtown

The light of my life has left and my world went dark
Even home don’t lighten my melancholy mood
I
pull into the drive and shove the truck into park
Loving her, losing her, now to live in solitude
.

A sad poem indeed!...but for some reasons, this is lyrical. Enjoyed!

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
