I needed you for me to feel whole and complete You needed me to be your shining white knight I needed you with every breath and heartbeat You used me to fight your demons of the night I needed you to share my homestead retreat You used me to calm your feelings of fright I needed your love to be enduring as concrete You used me to make everything all right I needed you to stand on your own two feet You used me to relieve you of your plight I never expected that you’d lie and cheat You expected me to give up without a fight I now live with your memories bittersweet And you now have to live with that parasite!
hmmm it seems that I wrote a kind of flip-side to this poem several years ago titled Prisoner of Love. Mine was not written from my own life, simply one of those that came to me one day. I can taste the bittersweetness of this, Steven...and feel the heartache that comes with the understanding that it was doomed from the first and never meant to be.
Take care,
Sherry
