The muse comes and goes, Jane, you know that. Nothing is permanent. When that happens, and it happens to the best of us, I simply take a breather, then a breath and await her (his) return.
From your picture I think you have found where your muse is hiding. I suggest you climb those stairs and look around to see if it's there waiting just covered with dust.
Yes, the muse concept is a mysterious form of a buddy perched on your shoulder, or an inspirational fix on you pen as you write, et al. From my point of view, it will appear again. Give it room is all that's necessary. And, of course, a reason.
Yes, I know the feeling. I have also written a poem about my muse that wentbon vacation and i could not find it. It is happenning again. I hope our muse will come back to us soon.
