The Game
January 7, 2013
They said she was the odd one as she refused to play
“That game” – they called it “life” –
Waiting always, the eternal opportunist
Like a cat about to pounce from its haunches
Deliberately, calculatingly, at a flirting casualty…
She fell victim to “that game”
As she became a pawn
For “the system” when she knew not the rules –
To which she responded with a hearty “screw you”
And not a glance back…
Into the corner grates she settles
Existence wrapped in the old paper of yesterdays
As she sleeps and dreams
Of “that life”
Reminded of its reality in spades…
