Freeing the Watcher

Once upon a time it began
With an electric spark that never went out
And all the years
She waited
15 to be exact
To be pierced by the arrow of the watcher –
She knew it was coming, someday
Oh, she was nudged so many times
Fate laid out literally at her door
But she threw a rock and shattered the glass
Time and time again
And all the years
She could still glimpse the watcher –
Through the fractured prism light
She basked in its warmth
And all the years
She turned away
Just to shrug with the cold
Never allowing the wisdom of the watcher –
You see, everyone has a watcher –
Not an angel, mind you, not a God
But he is inside you
Insister, inquisitor, instigator
That sonofabitch!!
When the soul is out of whack
When life has run amok
When what dwells doesn’t match the cards
He acts with ruthless abandon
He gets ugly, the watcher –
Sometimes the arrow pierces too deep
Lays forever in pieces, in pieces
But the reward is glasses to finally see
Where she has always belonged
This is the tale of the watcher –
Who needed to be free…
