Stranger

 I met him on the beach

on a cold September morn,

when the waves were hissing fingers 

and the sun an ancient coin.

 

He held me close to keep me warm

and we watched a far white sail.

He is all my heart could wish for,

if it weren't for his fish's tail.

Concise condensation of the romance formula. I really like "and we watched a far white sail." That line holds enomous depth. And your last line sums up the human condition. Very sharp awareness writing. ~~ Diana

Nice twist on the classic mermaid tale of man being enchanted by a mermaid siren on the sea or beside it...simple but well done.
