Exhibiting respect for ancestors

If only we knew, maybe there would be no hating
Maybe instead of one-night stands, we would be dating
Maybe we could look at the variances of color and see the beauty
Maybe we would look at another brother struggling and accept our duty
Possibly one sister could look at another and compliment her “do”
Maybe one brother would accept the excuse me from the one that stepped on his shoe
One day we’ll work hard and legally own that Benz
Instead of jacking the nigga at the light that’s slipping
Hopefully, the next time a restaurant won’t serve “our kind”, we’ll go on strike
Maybe the next time a man and a woman make another, they’ll be husband and wife
Not two teenagers who probably can’t explain the process of reproduction
They can’t drive, vote or drink but old enough to be f***ing
Maybe one day our people can stand together united
Without their first reaction to result in fighting
Some think that since we live in “that” house and drive “that” car, then we’ve arrived
Understand that the struggles not over, realize why our people died
We need to open our eyes and address the real fight
Stand up and finish they’re battle for equal rights
We are not focused and the day will come
When we’re face-to-face and they’ll ask, “What have you done?”
We disregarded the war despite everything they went through
Wouldn’t they be ashamed, if only they knew?

This is a wonderful work! Insightful, problem solving, common sense abounds, and just a joy to read. Lord, everyone is angry these days and can pi$$ upa storm over nothing. Its hard to avoid all the pitfalls. Its nice to reach an age of vintage (me) to say kiss off, and have karate training to make it stick if it becomes a problem, and beat them to death with my cane. (just kidding)
