Boyhood green i was ‘mongst
manhood
tears o’ fear..awa frae hame
cryed i..
sweat smells o’ marching men
an’ i a drummer boy
dressed in drummer yellow
nae red for me
until youth’s dissapearing
daffodil clothes
withered with age...
then bluids red badge of honour
i’d display upon my breast..
cloud grey the mist o’ battles
horror
bayonet sharp the twisting
in the gut
of honours’ enemy
screaming men falling
in line perfect style
dominoes down
the sergeant screams
and horses snort in steamy shit filled fear
my drum is gone for a soldier
my flintlock
fired beyond redemtion
bodies crumpled in
homage to my aim
lost in bluide lust
swim i
Graham, your poetry has a nostalgic intensity I have not found elsewhere often. Maybe it's not always pretty, but it draws me back for more.

You bring the horror home like a vagrant, mannerless, unapologetic guest who spares one nothing of his grotesqueness as he eats at ones lovingly set literary table - then he wipes his mouth on the back of his experienced hand, fully at home, comfortable, confident despite the stunned silence and when it is over, one applaudes his honesty as he leaves and as the scent of his brilliance settles as a reeking trail behind him, one steps carefully over it and wonders whether one should bolt the door!
