I'm in the process of writing a few poems about the Napoleonic Era.
The lives of the ordinary foot soldier, cavalryman and artilleryman has long been a passion o' myne....
It's been years since I've thought on the matter of this historic period....now I hope to awaken some of the enthusiasm I once had..for this most glamourous of eras...
The Young Hussar
The Young Hussar
..................
Young and brave and handsome he
the young Hussar who pursued me
he rode his gelding gracefully
that young Hussar
and with his steel sharp sabre
glinting
in that morning sun
he meant to have my head,
but
a sterling shot from
a Baker rifle
catapulted him from his
lofty saddle
and down into the heather he....
that young Hussar who pursued me
fell with wound mortal....
