The Scots Greys..
Royal North British Dragoons..
Heavy Cavalry Regiment...
They rode only grey dappled heavy horses...and were armed with a straight bladed sabre...the only cavalry regiment to have such..
The Scots Greys
...........
I charged wi’ the Grey’s on that day......
on that day
I charged
wi’ the Grey’s.......
I was a young strong lad
an’ tall as ony tree
wad fecht wi’ my ain dark shadow
if my ain dark shadow challenged me
daft and coorse an’ full
o’ fun and laughter
was I....
Came a recruiting Sergeant
to oor wee toun.. an’ he....
challenged every able lad,
but his een alit on me
an’ daft I was
to rise an’ tak
his bait..
Tall in my saddle sat I
ramrod stiff an’proud
Dragoon fierce, wi’ sullen
stare..the parted crowd
cheered, as we indifferent
in our arrogance,
rode past..
Ponsonby’s Union Brigade
the heavy lads were we
on grey horses wyld as wynd
when we rode free
into the Frenchie’s lines
slashing and stabbing
sabre killing ..
Ewart I saw, gallop past me
hacking his way to fame
slew five in a row
now an eagle tae his name
riding back with captured
prize..the Frenchies Forty Fitfh’s
disgrace..
But glorious was not to be our chapter then
but reckless ruin in deaths cruel dance
upon the hatred point o’ pigsticking
Frenchies lance
Ponsonby himself..I saw skewered
belly open..tripes
spewing...
Shivers I have with me now
and a nightmare I do ride
upon that field of yesteryear
wi’ ghosts at my sabre syde
the eyeless dead reach up tae me
imploring.....
“quarter..quarter”
my sabre silences my pity...

The title got me with this......and the poem was as good as I thought it'd be......you have a way with verse....are you published?
This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
ty, Dani
well done!
