My favourite place...

Careful now...
the path is steep
careful now...
the loam is deep
lovely now
the way ahead
shimmers green in
delicate fingers
of Spanish moss..

filtering sun through
overhead sentinels
warms my neck-nape
as I crouch in
wonder
observing miniscule
upon the forest floor
a miracle
o’ nature..

the silence
o’ a creatures way
across my vision,
the beauty o’the moment
captured
in a breathless hush
lest...
disturbing tranquility
epitomised..

joy it is
to wander within this
secret place
a witness
to a raindrop
flooding the plains
of a glorious
fern leaf..

the trail of a slug tear
wynds it’s sad way
in slothful journey...
as if hurrying
would save it
from the voles
dinner plate..

silence now..
only the swishing of heady
branches
high above
where lie I
‘mongst roots and
undergrowth..
naked.

i listen to the sounds
unheard,
i see the hidden secrets,
i taste
the bitterness
so sweet,
i feel the warmth o’
dampness chill..

this forest place
this pacific shore
this salish heaven..
this eden..
this garden
where danger lurks
only in the form
o’ man....
