Look to the west she said and I
Did not question her but did as
Asked, the hill on which we stood
Highest in a rolling field of wheat
Ripe for harvest, beneath a moon
Whose light we embraced because
It shone on us alone, hand in hand
And so alive, eternity a simple fact
We took for granted, our innocence
Still assured in that long ago fairytale
Of seventeen, where time hung suspended
On nothing more than our inability to
Believe otherwise, and oh how we loved
What could not be understood, the elusive
Mystery of that sprawling cosmos in a vacuum
Of possibilities, spinning out of control, feeding
Our desires, lending credence to the mystery of
Each other as we breathed deep the cold night air
Sweet with the smell of her perfume, a scent that
Will always haunt me, whispered on the edge of
Restless dreams, as is want to happen when the
Moon shines full and I drift away to the music
Of wind chimes, blessed harbingers, gateway
To oblivion, comfort of sleep, and look to the
West she said, hand in mine, on that secluded
Hilltop so long ago, look to the west and pick
A star, name it as I have named mine so that
You will never forget me…
As if I could…as if I could.

“Look To The West”
Of seventeen, where time hung suspended
Could truly relate to this powerful bittersweet nostalgic piece, George - and it seems to be a mysterious fact of life that when we're young, time does seem to be suspended for awhile - if only that were still true when we age.
