Cigar Strong
I am my father's daughter though his name is not
my own I have outgrown it I have outgrown
him
I am his father's granddaughter and I still breathe
his mystery his secrecy his longing for what might
have been it lingers on my skin cigar strong
and I have found his hidden name the one
his grandfather pruned away
I take it back today
for him
I am my mother's daughter though my wings
have not been clipped. I wear her desires her
fires long doused now burn in me and I
live free as she might have should have
had life been kinder to her
I am my husband's wife and his strength
has made me stronger his passion
makes me long for what can be
and I am me
wearing pieces of them all culmination
of every life every breath every
whisper every moment all
woven in burrowed
deep into my skin
where they
linger
still
cigar strong
excellent work Debra...

I would think that most of us are the people we love.
