The life you give to the slippers is amazing, and surely one of your best poems I have read lately, and surely to be honest I have not been reading poetry lately.
If I were in her shoes... but then I'm not. Maybe a woman's shoes are about the unbearable lightness of making things look natural and so incredibly easy. Just like your writing that makes me wonder... what would it be like, to be that other woman, the one who's wearing the pretty slippers, or the one who's both empowered and made fragile by her heels. Will her soles tell me something about her soul? Such complexity behind your effortless poetry. I'm glad I'm here to read it again Kate! :-)
OMG! I have SO missed reading you! Hope you are doing well. I *LOVE* this! You have such a gift, an amazing way of personifying items in the most endearing way possible.
WOW: "more razor than her / hot-head, nine-inch pigtails." Come on now, how do you come up with treats like that? And what about "soft-souled and sneaky" - Freudian slip? "soul" vs. "sole?" Either way, it's perfect! Soft-[souled] gives more of the personification to the item, as well as being an intriguing curiosity to the reader. Kate, you don't do things "by accident;" this is just wonderful!
Such clever fun! My Slippers are defined by medium heels that don't hurt....ruby red, sequinned and worn in the snow at my daughters almost Christmas wedding....
Magic? Oh yes!
Hugs,
Diana....
Oh yes, that marvelous time when the weather is perfect for sparsely adorned feet that dance like Cinderella . Naked toes in , well some sandals can be down right noisy too, the point is.......I'm all for the sand softened feet of summer that your poem reminded me of. Inspired slippers indeed!

Inventive, fresh verse. Smart, fun, meaningful words that fizz with energy. Marvelous, Kate. ~~ Diana
...wonderful poem..."with time to savour

Oh! What I'd do without my heelless pair...that
flatten out my day-to-day springing clangour
and...hurry things forward...in my 24/7 life.
Thank you Kate, for making my day!
Creativity flows as always, Kate, musical, rhythmic, and you have such insight.
I love to wear my pair of soft red slipper shoes, and there is always a certain kind of energy to match. This is the first poem I have read, I was happy to see you posting. I just got a new computer today, just set up. I have not had one in many months and have not been writing. Time to inhale deeply and find some inspiration, and best place to start is here :)) xo Christine
Between sandals, shoes, slippers, heels, and flat shoes, I have over 50 pairs of them with me, but yet.... my favorite pair which I wear most of the time is the one I have on in my profile photo. which is far more comfortable then all the slippers. I've bought this one at half price in "Payless" shoes store. I can walk, jog, and run with in them. This pair of shoes, even though it is the cheapest pair of all, is the most comfortable pair that I have ever worn. I've even told my family that if and when I die, I wish to be buried with this pair of shoes. I meant that, but they all seem to think I was only joking.
I like the way defined between the heels and the slippers. Great poem!
An absolute delight. Would that the essence of this fine piece could reach the minions who murder their feet with the slow death which is a Podiatrist's dream: business. Your choice of words and syncopated rhythm was spot on.
