At this beautiful summer's end...

SLIPPAGE

Start by untying the laces of time,
shuck shoes of clock-watch minutes
then peel off socks with their
can’t-breathe seconds:
unfettered soles know freedom.

Feel instead the invidious sickle
of grim-reaping sands slip softly
between toes; the lumpen grind
of saturated schedules shift
and slowly slide.

Let waves of ceaseless ebb and flow
wash over, over, over
until, in their continuum,
you paddle, wade then swim.

Kate,
I say keep on swimming and end up at my shore! We can have a blast!
Ah, the relaxation of just melting into the ocean and walking on the shore...heaven on earth!
I get to do this quite often and feel so blessed for it!
Great Write,
Peace, love and light,
Amber

I find this a very innovative way to relax. Perhaps something even more profound, meditate, on the end of summer and the coming of fall.

I missed the beach and ocean this summer I'm afraid, I was still recooperating from my hospital stay & didn't have the desire to go into my ocean this summer...also my financial situation is kind of strained as I am on disability and only make just enough to pay the rent and have a very small amount left over...I had my MANY MANY days at my beach and have those memories...and when someone like you Kate writes of the beach and the sea, I am so drawn to it, even though I live but 50 miles from it, I still don't feel right using the gas to get to it...thank you for this beautiful rendering...-e-

Good to see a posting! And so timely, love fall but hard to see summer go as you have aptly stated.

the alliteration that adorns your sumptuous images echo the coming of the bodies end and its incessant renewal into the sea of life - truly a liberated spirit will swim when all around continues to drown ...

Gosh, when Odin speaks . . . What is left to say? . . . Still, time is what its all about, and time waits for no one . . . (Can't believe I said that) . . . You can either accept the inevitable or move to San Diego where I read once that the mean temperature there was seventy-something-degrees, and that ain't bad. Another winner from the Burnside pen . . .

Wonderful metaphoric wisdom, given the vast majority of species are shackled to time's obsessive dominance. To swim, indeed.
