I always wondered, just how long it would take,
To finally get you off my heart and mind.
For years I couldn’t watch a sunrise on the beach,
And sunsets only brought tears to my eyes.
I don’t lie awake anymore with that picture of when I saw you last.
And God knows there’s been times that I cried,
But I think enough time has finally passed.
Enough time has finally passed.
I never drive down that street off Thirteenth Ave,
Because there’s that church where we were wed.
But just the other day I ended up just there,
Listening with the people as the pastor read.
I know there will still be times when I get asked,
If I’ve thought or called out your name.
But I think now enough time has finally passed
Enough time has finally passed.
My work is my addiction without your love,
But that’s better then the whiskey or gin.
On Sundays though I still feel all alone
But only once a week alone is much better then ten.
I’ve had to hide the hurt all these years behind a smiling mask,
And the silent cries still scream loud inside my head.
But I think now enough time has finally passed
Enough time has finally passed.
Songs on the radio seem new to me again,
And no more visions of you appear in the refrains.
I don’t feel the need to rush to the door these days,
When someone comes knocking or hollers out my name.
God has a plan and I know I'm up for the task,
For life seemed not worth living before without you.
But I think now enough time has finally passed
Enough time has finally passed.
So goodbye to your memories and a wish of happiness I say,
To begin each day with a smile is my wish for me.
To climb any mountain that stands in my way,
To be able to get up from being knocked down on my knees.
Forever will now be just a word from our past,
And forgiveness will still be something that is new.
But I think now enough time has finally passed
Yes, enough time has finally passed.

In the days following my husbands death I dreamt of him as young man. He tried to communicate with me, but I knew it was not good to try to bring him back, it seemed to confuse him. Sometimes when I am walking around my house I find myself mumbling I love you. For a long time I did not know who I was speaking too. Now I know that it was him speaking to me, and I reply to myself, I love you too Glenn.
I have not reached a point where I can forgive myself for every little thing I could have done better. I can only try to be a better person now.
I long for the day (if ever a day will come) when I can say Yes, enough time has finally passed. Kate
Do you really think that time heals? I have not found it to be so yet. I can relate well to your woven verses. Thank you for sharing this offering. Love and peace. Regis
Heartfelt account of a lost love. I think that forgiveness is the key to keep you from being locked in the past. A lesson that I'm still learning...well done, David
Dear David,
This is poetry at its best. Deeply moving and sensitive write that can only tug at the heartstrings of all who read. I know these emotions all too well. Memories are painful reminders but life is full of opportunity to create new happier memories. Life is too short to live with regret. Your poem is extremely well written and filled with wisdom born out of experience. It is encouraging for me to see so much hope. I wish you the best fellow poet.

There comes a time in life when one realises, knows and accepts when it's time to let go ... or as you put it "Enough time has finally passed" The mere fact that you write about it, is in itself progress of the determination to let go of the past. Recognising the hurts, only reinforces the the pain you have suffered. Sitting alone in bars with your whiskey and/or Gin was just a punishment inflicted upon yourself, to try and help you forget, but it only dulled the ache for a while. May you find the strength to keep going, and in so doing, you are able to find the happiness that you so richly deserve.
It's nonetheless beautiful, emotional poetry.
My wish to you, may the happiness radiate... and that a smile be ever present. :)
i'm not sure you have quite let go or you wouldn't have been able to write so exquisitely about it
