Three girls struggle to make sense of their feelings in a society that has no place for them.

When we first met her,
A troubled girl,
A disturbed girl,
A girl wanting escape…
I was warned.

By looking into this girl's eyes,
I could see another girl's eyes,
Such lies in my head,
I knew that the only eyes I really saw,
Were the eyes of this troubled girl.

She sent me letters,
And she sent me pictures,
They spoke of death and of blood,
They spoke of troubles and of past,
I should have seen that there was evil there.

And then the truth was laid before me.
A crumpled note,
A bloody note,
A hateful note…
And I knew I should fear her.

I told her so,
Told her to go away,
And stay away,
And leave my friends and I alone…
But then she came and whispered sweet words:

"Come away.
We'll fly away,
Through the night on silver horses.
And I'll care for you until I am dead,
For what I want is you."

But I did not want to be wanted,
Least of all by her.
So again I told her to be gone,
And when I was with my friends,
My friends would chuckle and say: I told you so.

Then she was gone.
I though for sure,
I truly did,
That my troubles were all far-gone…
But they were beginning anew with another girl.

And this was a girl,
A sweet girl,
A quiet girl,
A girl whom I loved.
They met and she thought for sure that this was truly love.

Now I was one warning,
Though I could not blame her.
I understood the power,
The power of this troubled girl,
But we were all too late.

They stayed together,
We saw her soul slip away,
And I suppose others saw that too.
They feared this love,
And sent the sweet girl away.

It doesn't end there,
The story goes on.
The girls would meet again.
If a far away land,
Where blood would run freely.

Alone and ensnared,
This sweet girl would weep,
She wanted to end her life,
For her life was nothing without her.
Her life was nothing without this troubled girl.

She thought for sure she'd die alone,
Wither away forgotten.
She knew for sure her love had gone,
And perhaps found another.
But then she came and whispered sweet words:

"Come away.
We'll fly away,
Through the night on silver horses.
And I'll care for you until I am dead,
For what I love is you."

Their flight was quick,
And in their haste,
They could not cover their tracks well.
Their flight was seen,
By a poor old man who would rat on them for money.

They killed the man,
To remain unseen.
The blood flowed fast,
And the cuts ran deep,
And their true crime was committed at last.

In this failure to live,
In this flight to fly,
In this guilt of murder,
They turned to themselves,
And tried their final flight.

For these two girls,
Who shouldn't have been together in life,
Couldn't be together in death.
I know now that this troubled girl had found her true escape in this love,
But it was not enough to break the bonds of hate.

They were found,
They were misunderstood,
They were but children that the world feared…
The girls were then taken away,
To never see another again.

And so the tale ends,
On a darker note than it began.
The girls died young,
They withered from being apart.
I visit their graves and feel a deep sorry in my heart.

Had I better warned her,
Would she be alive today?
Had I not told her to leave,
Would she be alive today?
Perhaps it doesn't matter anymore…

Perhaps and end is an end.

I very much like your dark style, Guenevere Lee. I used to write similar, but don't anymore. At least not much.
