The bright day is aglow with light
Long past the dank dark night
People, animals, birds and bees
On land, in sky, on flowers, in trees
Are awake and active and alive
Seize the day, prosper and thrive
Somewhere on hammock under a tree
Lies someone fast asleep, carefree
The sun now high and glowing bright
Caresses the day with silken light.
To stop the day ending too soon
God created the Afternoon!
Yes, in many cultures where the climate is hot. A nap or siesta is taken in the early afternoon. Probably because it was so hot the night that one could not get sleep. Fortunately or unfortunately, air conditioning changes that cultural pattern so that we now work very hard all day and don't get to enjoy the afternoon anymore just relaxing… Slowing down.
I like the last two lines although I don't believe that our gods did anything for us.
