You smugly from ivory towers opine
What's bad poetry and what's fine
More obdurate, opaque obscure
More it earns your praise for sure
To common folk what makes no sense
O'er it you drool with great pretense
Mangled prose- sans rhythm or rhyme
Your accolades win every time
A poet's heart-felt thoughts in rhyme
Clear as a brook- to you are grime.
Not worthy of a casual look
Much less be published in a book
We ordinary folk, below your tower
Do not from your judgement cower
Us, the reviled ridiculed few
Always thought and always knew
Your praise does not good poem make
Rhyme, sense, clarity- we'll take
Descend from tower, lets then enjoy

This is a real gem. Not only is the poetry so easy to read and understand, with the beautiful rhyming quality that points out the hypocrisy of those who turn their noses up on what the people know and love for their esoteric obtuse view of their narrow worlds unto themselves.
I have heard that Bob Dylan may be the greatest poet of the 21st century. The high and mighty might take a look at the simple messages in his lyrics that ring so true. By the same token, John Lennon drew drawings that were reminiscent of Picasso in their simplicity. His lyrics were also simple but direct.
