Put you out
with the trash
at 6 a.m.

Shredded pictures
of a past,
a lie --
gifts and tokens
which meant

nothing

more than
"Forgive me,"
until next time

Little baubles, cherished,
no longer hold meaning,
never did, it seems,
for your intentions
were not as perceived

I shake you off,
do not speak your name,
cut you from my life --
a moldy fungus
that grew
in the darkness

Yet each time
I do
as done
so many times,
you reappear,
like a phantom,
a ghost that will
not die

You are the lint
on my shoulder,
stray hair
in my eye,
asparagus
caught between
my front teeth

No matter where
I walk,
how far I go,
you remain stuck,
unavoidable
like Gum
on my shoe

Asparagus between my teeth .... Hmmm! I guess that's not a compliment. A heap of irony in this. Well done.

Ha! Ha! Oh, boy, have I been there, done that. Great lines and greater message, like, a bad penny always shoes up. Or something like that. I loved it. Yes.

What an all-encompassing poetic description of a failed, yet
persistent love.
Great work here, girl.

Great write!!! Poet try using WD40, it will remove the “Sticky Stuff” from the bottom of your shoe! I wouldn’t advise though for your teeth…yuck… And Yes the story is true. Rose died in 1978 after her husband was murdered in 1974. That’s where both of these stories came from. I had the oak tree dug up and moved next to her and her beloved husband. Keep The Faith.

I seem to know, even though I never had this problem, as far as I can recall, getting too old to remember anyway...but I do know where you come from with this wonderful gem, glad I stopped to read it...Peace Ed & Rufuz (& thanks for the review on my recent roast)

Wow, I can feel this. I don't let them stick like gum, but this one really hits home. Excellent!

Beside Still Waters by Jill Eisnaugle

Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
