After the wedding night...

When I woke up at dawn,


I realized I was


tenderly wrapped in your arms.


I felt protected,


cherished,


intoxicated,


as I gazed into your eyes.


Before last night,


I was unaware that


the love of a man for


his wife could be


so intense,


so gentle,


an abandonment of self.


Now that I know,


I never again


want to wake up alone


in a cold single bed…


aching for your sheltering arms 


to wrap themselves


around me.
