The story of a lifetime, a lifetime of story.

Poem Artwork

Artist Marjett Schille -- "The Quilt" c. 2006

        The Quilt

To rest,
the blanket soft
and warm, the breadth
of worry gone —
but then ……..

no heart of stone
the walls of refuge
thoughts have built.

This quilt,
the stories comforting,
a place of rest
from thoughts of guilt
for those with less —
and less than none,
but nonetheless……

To rest,
the blanket soft
and warm……..

Yes, for those who have children there is always worry whether they will prosper or not. With the misfortune will come along their way or they will exceed beyond all expectations. One never real one has reached an age where one can pull a quilt up tight to keep warm and to contemplate all that has gone before.

That photo, that I thought was your artistry, initially, is very apropos for the story that the poem suggests.

Again, what lies between the lines and what is left unsaid perhaps plentiful and full of value to complement the comforting symbolic image of the blanket. As you so quixotically ended: "for those with less - and less than none, but nonetheless....." Lovely. Saying so much with so little.

Indeed. Snuggling and cuddling. Especially near a warming fire, with the one you love, and something hot to drink. A cool print. Thanks for sharing. r

So simple a message to comfort so many complexities that live with us every day. Wonderful painting, I agree. Going to steal it for my collection of screen savers.
