Poem Artwork

 Someone’s hand appeared

and waved and left without noticing
Someone’s hand rose high
in a clueless fist-pump
Someone’s hand held up
an angry middle finger
Someone’s hand scurried
away into a safe pocket
Someone’s hand extended
then pulled back embarrassed
Someone’s hand reached out
touched fingers, took ahold
and held on for life.

You've planted ideas for many of us who seem to be running out of poetry themes. Now I'm thinking of someone's eyes, lips, feet, heart, memories, imaginations...The list could go on. BTW, I lock little fingers with a few special people as a gesture that we are "friends for life." It isn't a big thing, but nobody has refused me yet.

Indeed, so many forms of sign language.
Superbly expressed.

I have written poems about hands, but none of them such as this. Beautifully executed and so expressive, like hands themselves.

The pressing, or joining together of hands is a universal gesture across many different cultures. Having spiritual significance, symbolizing energy, intention, friendship, comfort, and at times it declares: 'Hey, I'm connecting with something way bigger than me.' In Christianity hands hold sacred significance as seen in the laying on of hands for blessings, and for healing. rlc

Everything about this is an amazing poem. The structure. The subject. And the cliincher at the end. The human hand is so expressive, those with hearing difficulty can actually converse with hand sign language.

Yes. Some gestures are symbolic... and can have a serious meaning attributed to them. Love, peace, and blessings to you, Diana,

Regis. 🙏🌸🦋

The observant eye and mind at work again. The chronical of hand gestures is such a comment on choice, as every reference reminds us of how much we need to touch, and yes... hold on for life. Your painting is also so complimentary with its ghost like aura eminating from the tips. Loved this one.
