So much to do in the house this week
But no energy to talk about as we speak
Influenza comes to all, least expected
No not a cold, a fever detected.
It started so softly, just a tickle at the throat
When writing a letter, a letter I wrote
To a friend with an ailment of similar woe
A virus exploring from head to the toe
A hot cup of coffee and much vitamin C
If I was in England, they would certainly serve tea
Old wives tales I recall from afar
Like breathing the sea air, the sort we call haar.
Or going to bed with a bottle so warm
Having taken the medicine described on the form
Its taste does not matter, its work it must do
To hit this new virus, this one that is flu.
Tomorrow will come and the ailment subside
From indoors all wrapped up, you’ll no longer hide
A scarf, a hat and warm clothes now in view
Will give you the confidence to come into view.
Oh Hannie my dear just where have you been?
For the last few days, you’ve hardly been seen.
And where is Joris, has he surfaced too?
Don’t tell me you both, came down with the flu!
Yes but now we are up again, see!
Restored to enjoy all our friends company
The thing is this virus began as a pest
It's gone now, I can breath, I’ve put it to rest.
Oh dear Hannie, It’s Miller here with a sneeze
I think that I’ve caught the Belgian disease
It flew here this morning when I was in rain
Achoooo where’s my hankie I think I’m in pain!
But that was yesterday, when feeling quite low
It’s gone I tell you, I just let it go
The plane was in time, the sky bright and clear
I’ ll land in Orlando, my, I wish you were here.

That's what one nasty disease, you captured it so well, either you just had it, have it, or are getting it. As for me, I had the flu once, when I got a flu shot!
