Down the Drain

Beneath the colourless heavy skies

Is a land awaiting the downfall?

To cleanse the parched soil

To satisfy flora and fauna?

While in the home the kettle boils with rapidity

The tea is sipped dignifiedly gripped by two strong fingers

While the pinkie retreats fearing the heat of the cup.

The bath water is run with force into the bubbly studs

I enter and let the suds seek crevices, nooks and crannies.

I lie back contemplating the source of this cleansing activity

And when the temperature lowers, the foot engages the plug.

The teapot is emptied and the toothpaste swirls away

They assemble, Down the Drain.

SINCE EVERYTHING GOES BACK TO ITS BEGINNINGS WHEN IT GOES 'DOWN THE DRAIN', THEN...WHEN SOMETHING(OR SOMEONE?) GOES 'DOWN THE DRAIN'...THIS IS A GOOD THING...? I'M THINKING THAT IN 'SOME' CASES, THIS COULD BE TRUE BUT NOT ALL. HMMMMMM...A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW, INDEED! WELL DONE AND ENJOYED. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I like the parallelism created by the juxtaposition of the first four lines and the final nine, with the hint that the 'sign vehicle' "down the drain" has as its 'sense' some vast assemblage of which we are only dimly aware. This is an intriguing poem on a number of levels.

Yes...well done...the line "The tea is sipped dignifiedly gripped by two strong fingers' made me smile it evoked an image of happy days in granny's kitchen when daily tea drinking was done and the little pinky had to be held a certain way ,I mastered it at a young age,yes I can relate to this poem,it brought me joy....thanks for it.
