Spring Storm

thunder rumbled and growled

flexing its mighty strength

angry lightning  stomped between clouds

the house seemed to gather its breath

its heartbeat pulsed, pretending to be empty

there was a slight stiffness to the way

she slipped through the air crossing the room

as a lively patina of emotions

squirmed across her thoughts, like static electricity

another clap of thunder rolled,

 windowpanes vibrating like drumheads

lights throbbing dimly like pulsing storm beams

coruscating curtains of radiant rain

silvered the night

torrents pounded and pried seeking entrance

as the storm painted luminous galaxies on the skylights

while faint images crawled the hallway floors

loneliness was present as if pure purpose

encased in impatience pierced and filled the void

with an oppressive sense of bleakness

standing by the window the street was visible

behind that sequined veil of rain

only in a succession of wedges between half closed blinds

her reflection

just bounced back

into the lonesome void

"while faint images crawled the hallway floors
loneliness was present as if pure purpose
encased in impatience pierced and filled the void
with an oppressive sense of bleakness"

I must admit that I hate gloomy days, but when a lightning storm is brewing, I go out and sit on my back porch and watch it unfold while my wife hides inside.

Carole, what a beautiful display of imagery, summed up perfectly
in the closing three lines. Also, I love these two lines:
while faint images crawled the hallway floors
loneliness was present as if pure purpose...

I agree with La Belle. This is an image rich piece that many of us have experienced during a thunderstorm or two. Thank you for sharing.

Carole,

Beautiful metaphoric poem describing the spring storm which can be Mother Nature showing her fury. Loved it.

Strong, arresting word choices and excellent use of image in this fine piece of work, Carole; "...the house seemed to gather its breath..." and "...loneliness was present as if pure purpose encased in impatience pierced and fllled the void..." are just two of the many examples of wonderful writing here.

Carole, you do not write a lot, but when you do what you write is so worth the wait. Beautiful! I can feel the storm's throbbing along with the electricity charged static. Great, thoroughly, verbally painted.
