Having not been around much here on AD during 2007 after a somewhat busy and stressfull year. (Mum's Ok now! yea!) I've thankfully managed to get back into my creative flow again, so for your delectation here's a previously unrealesed and suitably dark piece from Tales from the Apocalypse. Sparky the prince of darkness is back! LOl

Poem Artwork

Miserable Grouse

Miserable grouse lived in a suitable house

with his suitable spouse, children, digital T.V.,

S.U.V., and Nintendo Wii

he had it all but wanted more

a fully fledged commercial whore.

But he wasn’t happy with his lot

with what he’d achieved and what he’d got,

he cared little for the News

relying as he did, on ill informed tabloid views,

he didn’t understand or care about the World

only his own superficial existence and

when the latest gadget would be unfurled.

Getting into debt with money he didn’t have

for things he didn’t need

deceived into an advertised lifestyle

a member of the flock

the ignorant sheeple of greed.

Miserable Grouse? Miserable indeed…

But miserable grouse had a dark monstrous secret

he kept from one and all

one that could destroy his unhappy empire

and complete his fall.

He’d missed the news bulletins that day

about the missing children, war, and worldly gloom

He was on the internet…a loathsome predator

looking for more innocent victims to groom…

…When suddenly his screen went dead, his face turned red

and all the power went from the room...

and then from his suitable house.

Miserable grouse in a rage, swore at his suitable spouse

who checked the fuses and found nothing amiss

except for the lack of passion and the occasional kiss…

if she only knew.

A corruptor of innocence lost in the darkness

ran from his suitable house into the street

it was the same everywhere, everyone was powerless

With nothing suitable with which fate to greet

The ominous atmosphere filled the grouse with fear

his lips began to tremble and eyes began to tear

as he looked towards the skies he saw his victim’s faces

in the hellfire now racing across the firmament

vengeful angels stripping his flesh from bone

ensuring his torment would be suitably permanent.

There can be no justice in the elimination of a race

but in this one individual case?

The beast had released Armageddon upon an unsuspecting world

and what had gone before, really wouldn’t matter anymore.

Fabulously woven and crafted, subtly leading the reader from ordinary greed to extraordinary evil. And pragmatic soul that I am, it made me think that parole conditions should forbid internet use, for after all, offenders are not allowed near schools. Perhaps the ankle 'bracelet' could let out a piercing shriek when in an internet cafe--that should shake up the system. I see scalding coffee 'accidentally' spilled by many, the hospital burns unit--hell indeed. Sorry, registered nurse and a bit Irish Aussie, tend to go sideways!!!

What a satisfying fantasy, immensely enjoyable in its treatment of this difficult topic. I especially enjoyed the line "it was the same everywhere, everyone was powerless" that bespeaks the mindless state of our entire generation. Thanks for sharing this energetic and imaginative piece.

BLIMEY!!! You had me hooked from alpha to omega here, 007. Do you copy? The tra-la Mr Sun-tabloid Family Guy-type turning into Fred The Dead from a little terrace in Gloucester. No starring role (sorry!) for him... no Johnny Depp glamourising his sad psyche... Yes, in this instance, let him have The Chair... no, not the fairground one or his Captain Kirk computer one... THE OTHER ONE... Now look what you've made me... I've a substantial growth of facial hair... Could explain the "lack of passion and occasional kiss"-thing... :)) Yep, you're on... Spring down Dorset sometime... So pleased your Mam is mended. xxx

HI Paul --- Yes, yes, Happy New Year to you too!

Now on to this poem. Is the grouse capitalism, or perhaps its evil ancillary consumerism? I wonder though, when if ever, has man not coveted more than he can afford?

What the grouse should have done was get a cheap flight to the States; to the British it is as if everything is half-price over here. I paid $3.50 GBP for 100 ml of coke in London. That comes to about $7.15 US for what costs here around $0.50. Oy!!! talk about grousing.

Be well ~ Sara

This is dark, Paul; it is also very compelling and some of it applies universally I believe. Thank you for sharing. Welcome back. Best wishes to you for the new year with love and peace,
