After quiet sometime away from the Den. I've gotten back into the swing of things by preparing and re-writing earlier works in preparation for publication. This is a combination of two previous poems...Enjoy!

An Age in Retrospect (Redux-The Directors cut)

“Quiet in the studio…run time line…and action!”

1900-1945

The last vestiges of old empires fluttered

like ragged flags on thermals of iron and steel.

Economic slavery and the harmonious

thunder of war, a reinvention of the wheel.

A new machine of progress E=MC2

Japan 1945

And from upon high, a fat boy and little man fell

like vengeful Gods upon thousands of unsuspecting souls.

Incinerating innocence, fuelling the fires of hell,

none heard the horror of the victims’ cries

but the light of their destruction

was of interest to far away eyes.

Roswell 1947

The cheerless sky was torn asunder

by electric talons and raging thunder.

Sage brush cowered in windswept clumps

as rain fell in pounding thumps.

The firmament exploded and angels began to fall

their fiery flight impacting the dark desert floor.

However, these weren’t any angels we knew,

like nothing seen before. Their identities

to be kept secret, privy to just a few.

Unnamed AFB 1954

A meeting was arranged

with the dream makers from tomorrow land.

who’d been attracted to the light

like an ethereal moth.

Perfidious decisions were made

by agents of the unseen hand

they bartered  with our souls

in the name of  technological trade

 and got silk for cloth.

Dallas 1963

“A king loved by his subjects had a dream…to found a new Camelot…

it was only a dream.”

A man ready to reveal that hidden from the world

a beacon against the darkness

on show to his happy people, banners unfurled.

“Oh the folly of dangerous days.”

The empire of shadows were displeased

and struck down the ‘truth-giver’ with treacherous ease.

Deceptive wars were being fought on false fronts,

the enemy was not the enemy

they were like the rest, just prey in a global hunt.

1966

The World turned with LSD and Mescaline mind

founding a new revolution of the Aquarian kind.

Warriors with gestalt awareness protested

as minstrels sang a song of freedom

an illusion, as best can be attested.

“While in marbled halls, the pillars of power

echoed with a tuneless Straussian waltz.”

1970-2000

The cauldron of culture grew and grew

into the pot went the industries of the popular,

economic growth, and a war or two.

All the essential ingredients

in a recipe of distractions,

needed for a human stew.

Designed to keep enquiring minds

from knowing what we knew

that was reserved for the chosen few.

“And so like the Salmon eating its way up its birthing rapids,

hungry to die, we rushed toward technocratic utopia.

Lost in our hubris,

unaware of the paradigm shift, like the Atlantean’s  past.

 And like them, for us,

it was too late, the die had been cast.”

A New Millennium dawn

The Sun rose with new hope above the horizon of need

but it was just another illusion from a century of greed.

And when Jachin and Boaz fell

before liberty amidst the crystal canyons

of the American dream…

The cabal went cherry-picking in the orchard

of ill-gotten gains and for their pains

were rewarded with a fine harvest

of weapons of mass deception

used to stove-pipe a smoking gun

with rumours of mushroom clouds

emitting from unsafe actors

clothed in poor mans shrouds.

The World present day

Watching our imagined reality on digitised TV

in our blindness we see

another murder, another bombing

the new religion, the politics of the gun.

Conjecture and confusion, adds to the mix

enhances the illusion, adds to the fun.

Panic, fear, pandemic

chaos, disorder, systemic

in a communication revolution

and a devolving of human evolution

under panoptic control

the agencies of light and dark

now fight for your very soul.

Welcome to the beginning of the End Times.

“…And cut! That’s a wrap!”

Welcome to the Beginning of the End, Indeed; and Welcome Back, Sparky Williams. Histroy truly is worth pondering.

PS: My spouse was 'born' near Roswell, in 1947 (I know she's one of those aliens...)

Hi Sparky! Encapsulation of an era with each its own cinematic history, aliens landed, government denied Roswell as a hoax weather balloon and Timothy Leary Lives! Oil Field bombings in the Persian Gulf & Sadaam Hussein surfaces from a smelly rat hole. In horror we watched on digitized the planes hit the towers. Osama bin Laden in hiding and cowardous as lunatic religious frauds toting bibles loaded with as much destructive ammo to mow down any religion other than "Christianity" targeting Pagan worshippers and Wiccans, lesbians and ethnic groups who are shaking up the status quo. Tribal abductions wishing to wipe us away. Scores of scarecrow civilians stagger through the carnage emptying blood out of shoes. Reeling the destructive worm out slowly, day by day, winding it on a small stick. In 1972 the peace treaties leading to rebel attacks, reigniting the civil war, where we are at today, multinational consortium pumps on while Carlos the Jackal settles into a mansion. An Age in Retrospect (Redux) The Directors Cut added to the new millenium lexicon of cinema! It is a literary process in which mirrors life as we know it. You and I are not about to shed our pariah status, Paul. It will be us Pagans who sit down with the sacrament of wine kissing our lips as we scribe documents of peace negotiations to keep out the interlopers and their toxic relationships. Walking in line with a rebel bullet hole in the movie trailer, “…And cut! That’s a wrap!”

Sage

I liked the tone, and this reminds of We didn't Start the Fire song by Billy Joel.

Hey Paul!
Salutations brother!
A sobering progression here, you surely do have eyes and sensitivities for the signs and machinations of the coming paradigm on this freaking planet. I have heard that Europe is really changing, as it is here in America. It's like a sandcastle being slowly gnawed at by little waves down here in SoCal. I do hope you get this stuff published. I've always enjoyed your work; you have incisive acuity.
Welcome back!
Blessings ...
