Outsourcing and technology have made India a superpower. However, they also export too many of their children, hoping for a better life for them. But what about for India and for Bengaluri?
I saw a silk flower touch a child’s face
On the streets of Bangalore.
There was no water for her child
Progress had taken its place.
I saw a youth of Bangalore
Stand in queue to go to school.
So she could go away to learn
And return as a young fool.
The rich hotels demand and prove
That India is just like home
To the businessmen and women
Making deals on their cell phones.
Will it start all over?
I thought there were no more
Like the ones who ravaged India
And plundered Bangalore.
True, the jobs are better, IT rules
And my people all want more.
They are smart and young, and stupid
As they franchise Bangalore.
I saw a cow on the Bombay road
Staring at nothing, tail swatting flies.
It was worried about my Bangalore
And there were tears in her eyes.
I have no right to challenge growth
By God, we need even more.
But by God, the next time I will stay
And protect my Bangalore.
